A. Position in organization Above Project director LCP, and/or Project Owner Below Project Team, Engineering & Construction (E&C-) Contractor(s), Senior Project Controls Manager. B. Purpose of the job He/she is responsible for preparation, planning, execution and close out of projects characterized as “Large Capital Projects”, with high complexity, high exposure, high business risks and/or high environmental impact. Responsible for meeting project requirements in a safe manner, within the agreed project objectives (quality, time, budget, company requirements) and defined expectations with the principal. ) Management, coaching with guidance & control of E&C contractor(s). C. Job context 1. Organization: He/she is a member of the “Large Capital Projects Group” within CHS&EM. In practice he/she operates within principals organization, using local infrastructure/ systems. He/she uses the resources from both principal, departments and external parties (e.g. E&C-contractors and consultants). Within the context of the project, he/she represents the principal. 2. Work: He/she has a high visibility and carries a high exposure. He/she is accountable to achieve project objectives and defined expectations from project feasibility phase up/to start up of the plant. Effective networking is essential in ensuring that the proper resources and services are obtained, including client project team. Depending on project size and timing, execution of multiple projects of various complexities, principals and locations, can be within his/her portfolio. D. Competences 1. Acquisition of work Nature of the problems The Senior Project Manager has to balance and manage project progress, project economic-, technical- and technological complexity. On the other hand he/she has to manage “softer” complexity in both the project team, the principal and external parties. 2. Technical / Technology: He/she should have adequate knowledge and experience to understand the contents of the project to be able to take adequate decisions. Organizational: He/she has to act in principal’s organization, which requires a large amount of flexibility and a short learning curve. To be able to operate efficiently and with minimum delay within the client organization is a challenge. 3. Job Execution: He/she needs to define an effective project organization, around complex projects, balancing various interests of the principal and team members. Often he/she has to manage principal’s commitment(s) and priorities. He/she should have the authority and personality to challenge the principal and is able to withstand and re-negotiate unrealistic expectations. (Without being a formal part of principal’s organization, this often is a very complicated undertaking). He/she is accountable for contract negotiation, conflict resolution (e.g. claims, damages, etc) and contractor management, which can be very complex due to diversity of project stakeholders. To ensure safety health and environment and the correct attitude towards risks and safety is an important challenge. Managing contractors, the project team and external parties require a large degree of social skills. He/she has to manage effective cost and progress control and to implement an adequate reporting structure. He/she has to act/use/maintain the Corporate requirements and practices E. Job requirements 1. Educational level Academic or bachelor degree in a technical science (e.g. (bio-) chemical engineering, mechanical engineering) Specific training course(s) and/or experience >5 years of documented experience with the execution of projects of various complexity and capital investment in relevant business/technology environment. Certified Project Manager (IPMA/PMI) or equal 2. Knowledge Basic understanding of relevant chemical (and/or pharmaceutical) processes. Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation (sub)-systems. Knowledge of construction techniques and practices. Good knowledge of project management techniques, practices and principles. Good knowledge of Technology Transfer from R&D to Production work processes Good knowledge of Large Capital Projects work processes, Value Improvement Practices and Manufex- work processes. Good knowledge of team dynamics and -motivators. Good social skills. Good knowledge of project optimization practices (e.g. workshop techniques etc) Good knowledge of financial control, financial reporting and administration systems (e.g. SAP) Excellent understanding of regulatory requirements and corporate/client requirements.
